A Case of Giant Molluscum Contagiosum in a HIV Patient

A five years old female girl presented cystic swelling and fungating growth in and around the right upper eye lid. The right eye was closed and covered with the growth. The left eye, naso labial fold and corners of the mouth also presented few papules.

The lesions were infected, painful, itching, discharge was seropurulent. Sticking pain in affected area by Molluscum. Pain in eyes. Vision affected. Few lesions were matted together and discharge was highly offensive and excoriating. The regional lymph nodes upper cervical area was swollen. Child is greatly debilitated as she is unable to eat food on account of pain. She is unable to rise from sitting position due to weakness. Complaints < night.
The child had itching all over the body. Generalised Pruritis.
When she stands she starts trembling.
She is trembling and shivery, sensitive and emotional

Past History
She had recurrent cold and Cough.
The Childs parents are HIV patients. The child also has shown positive study for serological Examination. Suspected mode of transmission: materno-foetal.
She had been treated for pulmonary Tuberculosis under modern medicine for six months .Refer Plate I

Family History
• Her parents passed away following HIV and she is under the Care centre for HIV patients.
The child also has shown positive study for Serological examination.

Life Space:
Her Father was diagnosed seropositive just 3 month before his death. After the death of his father Tridot investigation of her mother was performed in which her mother shown Reactive for HIV I Infection.
Then only Tridot of Mayuri was done which shows she is reactive for HIV I Infection.
As per papers / sources available & history given by her grandfather & President of this Child care centre that no ART t/t was given to her till today or to her mother during ANC period as no investigations like ELISA or HIV test was done during pregnancy.
As patient’s parent died of HIV related illness she has been shifted in Care Centre for HIV AIDS patient.
She was diagnosed as Seropositive on 16/04/2007.
She was diagnosed as having Pulmonary Tuberculosis on 12/11/2008 & started AKT.

Physical Generals
Appetite: Loss
Thirst: Less
Sweat: on forehead.
Stool: Regular 2 times watery
Urine: Burning micturition.
Thermal:: Chilly
Sleep: Disturbed due to pain.
Discharge: Seroprulent & offensive.

Abdomen: distended.
Chest: looks emaciated. With emaciation of lower limbs also.

Decreased CD4/CD8 ratio: 0.21

Diagnosis: ‘Giant molluscum contagiosum’ diagnosed by Dermatologist & Ophthalmologist of AIDS Department of J J Hospital Mumbai.

• This case was examined clinically by AIDS Department of one of the famous Allopathic Hospital, Mumbai Prognosis given by them “as per WHO Clinical staging she is in last stage IV condition & so no any active treatment was given.”

• Giant molluscum are resistant to all therapy like cryosurgery, Co2 laser, TCA.

• Allopathic Treatment having limited scope as no medicines or Surgery was not going to help her.

• Infected molluscum on face are bursting and decreasing in size.

• Swelling around both eyes comparatively decreased.

• Molluscum below & around eyes decreased.

Discussion

The drug selected on totality and prescribed on sycotic, syphilitic plethora has benefited the patient. Since the out warded manifestations re better the deep seated miasmatic tendency expressed as AIDS also expected to give positive serological study. The treatment is on with ray of hopes…

Come the Hajj season, and I am reminded of the wonders of Zumzum water. Let me go back to how it all started. In 1971, an Egyptian doctor wrote to the European Press, a letter saying that Zumzum water was not fit for drinking purposes. I immediately thought that this was just a form of prejudice against the Muslims and that since his statement was based on the assumption that since the Ka'aba was a shallow place (below sea level) and located in the center of the city of Makkah, the wastewater of the city collecting through the drains fell into well holding the water.

Fortunately, the news came to King Faisal's ears who got extremely angry and decided to disprove the Egyptian doctor's provocative statement. He immediately ordered the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources to investigate and send samples of Zumzum water to European laboratories for testing the potability of the water.

The ministry then instructed the Jeddah Power and Desalination Plants to carry out this task. It was here that I was employed as a desalting engineer (chemical engineer to produce drinking water from sea water). I was chosen to carry out this assignment. At this stage, I remember that I had no idea what the well holding the water looked like. I went to Makkah and reported to the authorities at the Ka'aba explaining my purpose of visit.

They deputed a man to give me whatever help was required. When we reached the well, it was hard for me to believe that a pool of water, more like a small pond, about 18 by 14 feet, was the well that supplied millions of gallons of water every year to hajis ever since it came into existence at the time of Hazrat Ibrahim A.S., many, many centuries ago. I started my investigations and took the dimensions of the well. I asked the man to show me the depth of the well.

First he took a shower and descended into the water. Then he straightened his body. I saw that the water level came up to just above his shoulders. His height was around five feet, eight inches. He then started moving from one corner to the other in the well (standing all the while since he was not allowed to dip his head into the water) in search of any inlet or pipeline inside the well to see from where the water came in. However, the man reported that he could not find any inlet or pipeline inside the well.

I thought of another idea. The water could be withdrawn rapidly with the help of a big transfer pump which was installed at the well for the Zumzum water storage tanks. In this way, the water level would drop enabling us to locate the point of entry of the water. Surprisingly, nothing was observed during the pumping period, but I knew that this was the only method by which you could find the entrance of the water to the well. So I decided to repeat the process. But this time I instructed the man to stand still at one place and carefully observe any unusual thing happening inside the well. After a while, he suddenly raised his hands and shouted, "Alhamdollillah! I have found it. The sand is dancing beneath my feet as the water oozes out of the bed of the well."

Then he moved around the well during the pumping period and noticed the same phenomenon everywhere in the well. Actually the flow of water into the well through the bed was equal at every point, thus keeping the level of the water steady. After I finished my observations I took the samples of the water for European laboratories to test. Before I left the Ka'aba, I asked the authorities about the other wells around Makkah.

I was told that these wells were mostly dry. When I reached my office in Jeddah I reported my findings to my boss who listened with great interest but made a very irrational comment that the Zumzum well could be internally connected to the Red Sea . How was it possible when Makkah is about 75 kilometres away from the sea and the wells located before the city usually remains dry? The results of the water samples tested by the European laboratories and the one We analysed in our own laboratory were found to be almost identical.

The difference between Zumzum water and other water (city water) was in the quantity of calcium and magnesium salts.

The content of these was slightly higher in Zumzum water. This may be why this water refreshes tired hajis, but more significantly, the water contained fluorides that have an effective germicidal action. Moreover, the remarks of the European laboratories showed that the water was fit for drinking.

Hence the statement made by the Egyptian doctor was proved false. When this was reported to King Faisal he was extremely pleased and ordered the contradiction of the report in the European Press. In a way, it was a blessing that this study was undertaken to show the chemical composition of the water. In fact, the more you explore, the more wonders surface and you find yourself believing implicitly in the miracles of this water that God bestowed as a gift on the faithful coming from far and wide to the desert land for pilgrimage.

Let me sum up some of the features of Zumzum water.

This well has never dried up. On the contrary it has always fulfilled the demand for water. It has always maintained the same salt composition and taste ever since it came into existence. Its potability has always been universally recognised as pilgrims from all over the world visit Ka'aba every year for Hajj and umrah, but have never complained about it. Instead, they have always enjoyed the water that refreshes them. Water tastes different at different places.

Zumzum water's appeal has always been universal. This water has never been chemically treated or chlorinated as is the case with water pumped into the cities. Biological growth and vegetation usually takes place in most wells. This makes the water unpalatable owing to the growth of algae causing taste and odour problems.

But in the case of the Zumzum water well, there wasn't any sign of biological growth. Centuries ago, Hagar (raa) searched desperately for water in the hills of Safa and Marwa to give to her newly born son Ismail (pbuh) As she ran from one place to another in search of water, her child rubbed his feet against the sand. A pool of water surfaced, and by the grace of God, shaped itself into a well which came to be called Zumzum water.

6. 1925 G. Stearns & M. Stark reported the action of microdilutes on fruit fly tumors. In this fascinating study we see that microdilutes actually altered the genetics of their subjects. A genetically determined tendency to tumor formation ceased to exist after the administration of a microdilution of the tumor itself (isopathy). Controls were used. 7. 1925 G. Stearns tested microdilutions of salt on guinea pigs and demonstrated adverse affects from 30c to 1000c sodium chloride. He noted loss of appetite, aversion for bread, loss of weight, their young poorly nourished and scrawny, less active, indifferent, hair less glossy, rough, untidy, eyes watery, lack luster. And homeopaths brag that their “remedies” (which are actually legal drugs) can do no harm! There were 16 female control animals, and they all became pregnant, whereas only 31% of the 48 female experimental animals became pregnant. 8. 1927 Karl Konig used microdilutes to experiment on frogs and fungi. He discovered that by using dilutions of of lead and silver nitrate ranging from 1 to 15c he could cause a premature metamorphosis in Rana fusca (common frog tadpoles) or kill them or the fungus in the water. Once again here we see that homeopathic drugs can have negative organic affects. Laurel Chiten's most recent film is Twisted, a documentary about people with the neurological disorder, dystonia was broadcast on PBS's series Independent Lens January 30th 2007. Twisted was honored with Outstanding Achievement in a Documentary film from the Mass Access Awards.

As a filmmaker Laurel believes in the importance of telling a true story, even if it challenges conventional medicine notions of what is and isn't possible. Homeopathy was invented over 200 years ago, and it is still being practiced all over the world. Isn't that something worth looking at?

The Characters:

Nancy Korn had one dream in life–to become a mother. She and her husband Evan wanted a big family. After six years of trying, they finally got pregnant and gave birth to a healthy little boy, Lucas. His development was normal. But when he approached his first birthday, Lucas began to act strangely. By age two, Lucas was diagnosed with autism. Nancy and Evan were devastated.

They set out on a mission to bring their son back. Finding few answers in conventional medicine, they turned to alternative therapies. Some helped. Nothing cured. Lucas was still autistic. He still could not talk. One day, Nancy read about a doctor in Los Angeles who was using a centuries-old medical system, homeopathy, to treat autism. The physician, Dr. Luc De Schepper– affectionately known as ‘Dr. Luc’ -- is a medical doctor, licensed acupuncturist and homeopath, an author of 15 books, and a respected teacher and lecturer worldwide. Despite his impressive credentials, the method—and the doctor—were controversial. But Nancy had a feeling. first of all welcome to this group.
Regarding the queries u raised---
Iodine deficiency is not the only reason for goiter, but yes it used to be a cause for big goiters couple of years back especially in endemic areas, but still the prevalence of goiter is there (not extinct yet) after around 2 decades of iodization. the goiter still persists (the latest data is around 17% in Delhi) and majority of these goiters are goiter grade 1, 1a and occasionally grade 2.
Goiter is also seen associated with stressful conditions like Puberty and Pregnancy. in these cases one may develope physiological enlargement of thyroid gland known as physiological goiter.
Secondly goiter can be associated Graves' disease ie the classical example of hyperfunctioning of thyroid gland in iodine excess areas or ?because of excess iodine.

one more thing i forgot to add.. some time big nodules and cystic swelling in neck can be confused with goiter, even hashimoto thyroiditis causes firm feeling glands.

Dear Saurav Arora I am agree with you, that Iodine deficiency is not only cause of goiter,data provided by you satisfied my mind, Almost in every city Iodized salt used by every person, but the problem of goiter is still persisting. Indication is clear cause is something else.

now another mistery is, the cause of simple goiter and toxic goiter is same?

well to be precise in Homoeopathic terms, the cause lies beneath the layer, deep inside. it's the predisposition a man is born with, intermingled with the complexity of our environment, this interplay of man's constitution, his environment and thinking is the major cause of disease. Goiter is seen in people who have strong history of stress, familial predisposition, psoric, pseudo psoric or sycotic traits.

It is indeed a great pleasure for me to pen a few words in conjunction with 18th AHML & 8 th International Conference on Homeopathy and Complementary Medicine to be held at Genting Highlands Resort, Malaysia.


I would like to congratulate the organizer of The Asian Homeopathic Medical League, The Malaysia Registered Homeopathic Medical Practitioners Association, The Faculty of Homeopathy Malaysia for their didication in holding this event.


The fact that the organiser has gained support from members of Asian countries is reflected in the hosting of this conference. The confidence given to Malaysia is due to our ability in hosting previous international conferences successfully.


I believe that the conference would discuss new updates and development in homeopathy and complementary medicine since many experts are attending to the conference.


I hope that homeopathy would also be able to contribute towards better health care since it is a safe system of medicine and treat naturally.

I would like to extend my congratulations to the association of Medical Homeopathiy Practitioners and The Faculty of Homeopathy Malaysia for organising the 7th International and 27th National Conference on Homeopathy and Complementary Medicine.


It cannot be denied that Traditional and Complementary Medicine (T/CM) has made significant contributions to primary health care. The increasing popularity of T/CM was attributed to the ease of procuring such services, the rapport and trust consumers enjoys with their T/CM practitioners, the holistic approach of T/CM and the belief that T/CM focuses on health and healing while conventional medicine focuses on diseases and treatment.


MOH has taken a proactive approach towards exploring ways of integrating T/CM within the national healthcare system. The success of such a move of course will depend on the willingness and ability of all stakeholders, including the community at large, medical practitioners, professional bodies, T/CM practitioners, policy makers and others, to work together to provide useful evidence-based information, in line with our National Policy on T/CM which has launched in 2001.


I am confident that this conference will generate useful information on the various aspects of the practice of T/CM worldwide and provide an opportunity for us to be acquainted with various issues related to the practice of TCM in other parts of the world.


I wish the 7th International and 27th National Conference on Homeopathy and Complementary Medicine every success and hope that all participants will find the conference both interesting and beneficial.

I wish to welcome all delegates to the 18th Asian Homeopathic Medical League & 8th International Conference on Homeopathy & Complementary Medicine, Malaysia 2009

I am happy to note that Malaysia has been given the honour to host a reputable international conference on complementary medicine. It thus reflects the confidence of member countries in the ability of The Asian Homeopathic Medical League, The Malaysian Homeopathic Medical Practitioners Association, The Faculty of Homeopathy Malaysia (FAHOM) and other Homeopathic associations in Malaysia to organize this event.



I understand that for the past two decades the Faculty of Homeopathy Malaysia which is based in Kelantan, under the chairmanship of Prof Dr Nik Omar bin Haji Nik Daud, has been establishing and promoting this form of medication not only among the Malaysians, but also foreigners. The Malaysian Homeopathic Practitioners Association, on the other hand, has been active helping people through their volunteer services not only in Malaysia but also in Thailand, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka.



Today, all the members of The Asian Homeopathic medical League have come together to this conference to discuss and upgrade the standard of practice in homeopathy and complementary medicine.



I am sure that delegates attending this international conference hosted by the Open International University for Complementary Medicine will be discussing the future direction of complementary medicine. Indeed, armed with new dynamism, your group can look forward to meaningful role in improving the standard of health among the population and complementing the efforts made by the government.
