The First Malaysian Go To Space


Malaysian Astronaut Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor - DR SMS hopes to get closer to God when he ventures into space last evening at 21:20:00. The man due to become the first Malaysian in space said that he felt a sense of duty for Malaysian and all the Muslims in the world. " It is a small step for me a great for the Malaysian people," he said rephrasing Neil Armstrong legendry words after the Apollo landing on moon in 1969.

He will be joined by Russian cosmonaut Yuri Malenchenko and the US astronaut Peggy Whitson, in the Soyuz 15-S mission to the International Space Station.

Dr SMS will do experiments with tropical diseases microbes and the protein for potential HIV vaccine, and also study the effects of microgravity and space radiation on Cancer cells and human genes.
He will return on Earth on Oct 21 with two Russian members of the curent space station.
